Director of Higher Education Dhanraj Mane resigned on Wednesday. He was declared medically unfit to perform his duties after a prescribed examination at JJ Hospital and was found to be visually impaired.
For whom a post of maximum number equivalent to Director has been created in the same section following the guidelines of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. He is now responsible for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Department of Higher and Technical Education, which has been mulling over the matter since the report of Mane’s medical examination ordered from the hospital on October 19, has issued a Government Resolution (GR) in this regard.
Mane said, “I am going to follow the orders of the government.” Meanwhile, Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, currently the Registrar General of the University of Mumbai, will temporarily hold the charge of Director of Higher Education.
The case came to light following protests by the student organization Care of Public Safety (COPS).
The organization’s president, Amar Ikad, staged a protest at Mumbai’s Azad Madan in August, demanding a medical examination by Mane, claiming that Mane’s vision was impaired and it could affect his work.
