Interested in collaborating with your peers in New Mexico and around the Four Corners? Interested in attending a conference hosted and presented by local colleagues focused on unique needs and challenges, quality education and innovative teaching practices? If so, we invite you to join the CNM faculty for a day of professional development in an atmosphere of collegiality, sharing, and outstanding teaching.

The goals of the conference

The purpose of the conference is to provide high-quality and relevant professional development for teachers in teaching and learning at two-year higher education institutions. Meeting sessions promote best classroom practices that result in positive outcomes for our students. The conference provides a two-year opportunity for the regional community to build higher education faculty collegiality in a professional environment and to create opportunities for networking and partnerships among the schools represented.

Conference program

This year Theme It’s attention. With a big dream that inspires the students’ faith. This theme It reflects the critical role of the teacher/student relationship in students’ engagement with the subject and the institution, their motivation and sense of achievement and satisfaction.Teachers enjoy and are rewarded for their teaching activities.

Conference day includes:

  • Keynote by Maricel Herrera, nationally recognized speaker, Higher education leader, certified personal and executive coach, and first generation student-scholar-practitioner On evidence-based teaching practices
  • Continental breakfast and drinks throughout the day
  • Choice of two lunch options (select your choice on the registration form)
  • A series of sessions that explore a variety of topics in teaching and learning, including student engagement, online learning, diversity and equity, using technology, and student hospitality. The providers are from CNM and other institutions in New Mexico.
  • Resource tables that highlight interesting class or program initiatives

These are some of the biggest questions Maricel Herrera has faced as a higher education leader, certified personal and executive coach, speaker, first-generation student, academic, practitioner, and mother of a college student.

Maricel Herrera is a high-impact thought leader with over 25 years of experience equipping and empowering diverse audiences with practical tools and insights for their success. Her first-generation journey from NYC housing projects to academia deepens her deep belief in the power of education and relationships to change lives.

Her work as the founding director of the award-winning Coaching Center shows that relationships that meaningfully engage students continue to make a difference. Maricel has a graduate degree in education, senior leadership and coaching certifications, is the author of 2 books, and has been nationally recognized for excellence in student advocacy. She is the CEO of Mariselspeaks LLC, a national consulting, coaching and speaking services provider, and regularly shares her expertise on podcasts. Maricel is committed to highlighting the experiences of first-generation, diverse students and professionals who inspire others to live high and burn on fire.

The price of the conference

The one-day event registration fee will be $149.Includes conference materials, catered breakfast, lunch, and beverages. The registration fee works not at all Includes accommodation and transportation.
